BEFORE CLASS

Your class is on Saturday. Here's the one question to carry with you until then.

It costs nothing, it needs only a notebook, and it's where everything in class begins. You don't have to wait until class to start changing how you feel about your money.

THE QUESTION

What do you want your money to make possible?

Write down ten answers. Take your time, and spread them over several days.

Most budgets start with "What can I cut?" This question starts somewhere far kinder. The first three answers usually arrive fast. The last few take longer, and they're often the ones that surprise you most. So give yourself a few days. Let the list sit by your bed or in your bag, and add to it as answers come.

Start your list today

A few quiet minutes a day, over several days

1.Write the question at the top of a fresh page in a notebook.

2.Add answers over the next few days until you have ten. Big, small, practical or wild, they all count.

3.Read your list, circle your number one answer, and bring it to class.

As you write, notice how each answer feels in your body. The ones that make you feel lighter are worth paying attention to.

What if my first answer is "more money"?

Write it down, then keep going. Ask yourself what that money would do once you had it. "More money" might become one of these:

→ “I'd stop checking my balance before every grocery run.”
→ “A week by the ocean with my daughter every summer.”
→ “Knowing I can help my mom if she ever needs care.”

The more specific your answer, the more clearly it can guide every money decision you make after this.

Your number one answer is the foundation. In class, we start building your financial freedom on top of it.

IN CLASS

Once you know what you want your money to do, we discover what's been holding you back.

In class, we set this foundation together. It comes from Module One of The Wealth Shortcut course, "Come Home to Your Worth", where the work starts with you and your body before it ever touches a bank account. Here's what Module One covers.

  • Where Does Your Worth Live? Find out whether your worth lives in who you are, what you do, or how well you follow the rules.
  • The Value That Has Been Steering All Along. Name the value that has quietly shaped your spending, and see why some budgets never stick.
  • Your Body Remembers Every Money Moment. Understand money anxiety is your nervous system protecting you, and hear the money voices you inherited.
  • Tap Into Calm. Learn a simple tapping practice that settles your body around money.
  • Safe to Look. Open your accounts calmly, with four sentences you can use every time.

Set yourself up

Bring a notebook and pen, your list of ten, and your number one answer circled. Block out [60] uninterrupted minutes, and join from a laptop if you can, so the slides are easy to see.

IF YOU'RE WONDERING

Three short answers before class

The questions women ask me most before they join. Open whichever one is on your mind.

1. Why can't I wait until I have more money?

You can start with exactly what you have today, and the waiting is what costs the most. Here's an illustration. Say you invest $200 a month, and it earns an average of 7 percent a year.

START NOW · 20 YEARS

You put in: $48,000

Balance: about $104,185

Growth earned: $56,185

WAIT 5 YEARS · 15 YEARS

You put in: $36,000

Balance: about $63,392

Growth earned: $27,392

$104,185 - $63,392 = $40,793. Waiting five years meant putting in $12,000 less, and finishing about $40,793 behind. Compounding doesn't check your age before it starts. It begins the day your money goes in.

Illustration only. Assumes monthly contributions, a steady 7 percent average yearly return compounded monthly, and no fees or taxes. Real returns rise and fall, and all investing carries risk.

2. What if I'm just not good with money?

So many women tell me this, and the research tells a different story. Fidelity Investments studied 5.2 million of its customer accounts from 2011 to 2020. On average, women's investment returns were 0.4 percent higher than men's. Yet only 4 in 10 women said they felt comfortable with their investing knowledge.

The gap is confidence, and confidence can be learned. You've handled harder things than a brokerage account. This class shows you how, one calm step at a time.

3. What if thinking about money makes me anxious?

Then you're in exactly the right place. Money anxiety lives in your body, and your body can learn calm. That's why we start there.

In a 2012 randomized controlled trial, 83 adults had a single hour-long session of EFT tapping, an hour of supportive talk, or no session at all. Cortisol, the body's main stress hormone, dropped 24 percent in the tapping group. It dropped about 14 percent in each of the other two groups.

Tapping is one of the first tools in Module One, and you'll get a feel for how it works in class. This work supports professional care and never replaces it.
